- Record motor FLA and voltage from the nameplate.
- Select branch-circuit protection not exceeding the controller's maximum for that device type.
- Select conductors for motor ampacity and conditions of use, then check voltage drop for the feeder length.
- Only then run a generic breaker-wire compatibility check as a confirmation — not as the design source.

Two 1.5 HP motors can have different FLAs. Read the motor nameplate.
Respect fuse vs breaker maximums
Controller labels often allow a higher dual-element fuse than breaker rating. Swapping device types without re-reading the label is a classic mistake.
Check voltage drop on deep or distant wells
A correctly protected motor still overheats when the feeder drop is ugly at start.
Include the control circuit
Pressure switches, heaters and control transformers may need separate attention from the power circuit.
