  2. Select branch-circuit protection not exceeding the controller's maximum for that device type.
  3. Select conductors for motor ampacity and conditions of use, then check voltage drop for the feeder length.
  4. Only then run a generic breaker-wire compatibility check as a confirmation — not as the design source.

Can I use a standard thermal-magnetic breaker on a pump?
Often yes within the controller's maximum breaker rating, but many pump panels are coordinated around dual-element fuses. Follow the label for the device you actually install.
Why did my well pump breaker trip on start?
Motor starting current is several times FLA. An undersized breaker, a weak voltage supply or a failing motor/control can all present as “nuisance” trips.
