Same-Size THHN Counts
Uniform conductor examples for quick planning. Mixed pulls need the calculator.
| Conductor size | Insulation | Largest passing count | Fill at that count | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14 AWG | THHN / THWN-2 | 36 | 39.4% | Uniform-size example only |
| 12 AWG | THHN / THWN-2 | 26 | 39% | Uniform-size example only |
| 10 AWG | THHN / THWN-2 | 16 | 38.1% | Uniform-size example only |
| 8 AWG | THHN / THWN-2 | 9 | 37.1% | Uniform-size example only |
| 6 AWG | THHN / THWN-2 | 7 | 40% | Uniform-size example only |

Where 1 in RMC Is Used
RMC installation context for 1 in.
RMC is the heavy-wall option for severe physical protection and many exposed outdoor or industrial runs. Fill counts for 1 in RMC are still Chapter 9 area math — protection rating is why you chose RMC, not the wire count.
Weight, threading and cost differ sharply from EMT. Do not size the pull from an EMT chart and then buy RMC.
What Changes the Count
Checks that matter for RMC — not a shared six-bullet list.
Use RMC Table 4 area
RMC internal area is not interchangeable with EMT or IMC at the same trade size for precise counts.
Physical protection is the product reason
If you need RMC for protection, fill is the second question. Passing fill in EMT does not make EMT acceptable in that location.
Nipple 60 percent rule
Short nipples not over 24 inches may use 60 percent fill. Longer RMC runs use 53/31/40 percent.
Mixed pulls
Sum group areas for mixed sizes. The uniform table is a starting chart only.
